Slaven Ljujic was born in Niksic, Montenegro where he started his music education at the age of 8 and was first trained in classical guitar. His first experience hearing the sound of drums and groove made him want to play drums professionally. He started his training in drums along with his classical guitar studies. After high school, he decided to make a step into the world of modern music and drumming.

Slaven began his professional career as a drummer being the youngest member of the biggest Montenegrin Dixielend Orchestra (“Niksic city orchestra”). This orchestra was founded by the legendary professor Bozidar Bakrac who inspired many young musicians in Montenegro and introduced them to Jazz.

During the high school period, Slaven was guided by two of the most recognized jazz musicians in MNE, Sule Jovovic and Momica Glomazic. Outside of school he worked with drum teacher Milos Micunovic (graduate of the Musician Institute in London).

In 2012, he got admitted to Berklee College of Music( Boston) on a large scholarship. At Berklee he had a chance to meet and work with some of the most recognized artists of today such as Vinx, Dave DiCenso, Marko Djordjevic, Neal Smith, Ralph Peterson, Mark Walker and many others. He was probably most influenced by Vinx De` Jon Parrette (acclaimed singer, percussionist and songwriter) with whom he had worked a number of times (New York City Summer Concert Series at Riverside Park, Soul Kitchen sessions, Vocal Summit Sessions, guest on the upcoming CD).

Among other artists Slaven had played with are: Clarence Spady (at “Terra Blues”, NY), Corey Glover from “Living Colour”, Dolette McDonald - back vocalist for Sting, Eric Normand – rock/blues guitar artist…

He has recorded drums on two albums, for Montenegrian composer and guitar player Kristijan Djuranovic- (“I speak”, 2013) and Boston-based blues artist John Hyland ( “Johnny Fury”, 2014). He is also a guest drummer on Vinx`s upcoming album “The American Crooner”.
Currently he is a member of Katarina Pejak trio (a Boston based singer- songwriter).
